OVERVIEW

We invite you to enjoy the variety of Cape Cod! A pine-scented peninsula extending seventy miles into the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cod is rich in history and bursting with unique and interesting activities. Just a short distance offshore is what has been described as “among the best whale watching in the world.” Onshore, there is enchantment at every turn. Countless historic sites and landmarks tell the proud role Cape Cod has played in American history beginning with the Pilgrims first landing in 1620. It is a truly magical place built on the shifting sand left behind from the last great Ice Age. Do not forget to bring your camera!

Unpack, relax, take a stroll on the private beach and bask in the breathtaking ocean front views of Nantucket Sound. A welcome reception will be held in your honour where you will receive a complimentary Cape Cod print by a local artist just for coming along. Tonight’s dinner is included.

DAY TWO: TUES, AUG 29

An extended continental breakfast is included this morning. We’ll meet our local guide who will conduct a tour of Hyannis, including the John F. Kennedy Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, Hyannisport and a view of St. Francis Xavier Church, the summer parish of the Kennedy Family (please remember that this is an active house of worship and there will be certain times that we cannot enter the sanctuary).Travel to America’s hometown – Plymouth. Plymouth is home to Pilgrim Fathers and one of the country’s first settlements and it is well known in the United States for its historical value. A picture stop will be made at the Forefather’s Monument, the largest, solid granite monument in the United States. She stands facing the harbour, welcoming those who come by water. A picture stop will also be made at the Plymouth Rock, the traditional site of disembarkation of the Pilgrims in 1620. Board a Lobster Tale Cruise to learn about the many creatures that live in Plymouth Harbour. Experience a “hands-on” approach to see how lobsters are harvested from their natural environment. Roll up your sleeves to help haul in lobster traps.
6:00 pm We will have a lobster dinner which is included tonight. Alternate entrees will be available for any “landlubbers” not wishing to eat shellfish.

Meals: Breakfast & Lobster Dinner

DAY THREE: WED, AUG 30

Breakfast is included once again today. We meet our guide for a full day of touring. You will travel historic Route 6A, Old King’s Highway, a scenic byway winding through centuries of Cape Cod history. It winds past hundreds of historic structures. View the Eastham Windmill, a Cape Cod Lighthouse and drive through the Cape Cod National Seashore. Sand dunes and the ocean surround you as you approach “Land’s End” – Provincetown. You are now at the extreme tip of Cape Cod. Take some time to enjoy the wonderful variety of restaurants, shops and galleries that make this artist/fishermen village so unique. This afternoon you may choose to board an excursion vessel for an amazing experience of whale watching. Try to spot Humpback, Minke, and Fin Whales going about their daily business. An on board naturalist will introduce you to everything you see and will answer any of your questions about the whales, birds, fish and lighthouses. You may choose to stay on dry land instead: As a land option admission is included on a dune tour excursion. You will ride along the shoreline of the protected lands of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Your guide will point out the “dune shacks” where famous artists and writers became inspired to create their art. To finish our wonderful day on the Cape, dinner is included this evening.

DAY FOUR: THURS, AUG 31

Wake up and enjoy a continental breakfast. Our local guide will meet you at your resort and you will travel to the “south side” of the Cape to the seaside village of Chatham. Get ready for an unforgettable outdoor adventure – a seal watching cruise. This 1 ½ hour cruise has plenty of photo ops of the Harbour and Grey Seals. Next you will view the Chatham Light which has been a lifesaving beacon for sailors throughout the Cape’s history.  Chatham’s location at the Cape’s “elbow” makes it very vulnerable to winter storms. Your guide will point out the Chatham Break and the dramatic changes to the shoreline that have occurred. Return to the resort for a free afternoon. Relax by the pool or on the private beach! Dinner is included once again this evening.
Hotel: Riviera Beach Resort 1-800-227-3263

DAY FIVE: FRI, SEPT 1

Wake up and enjoy a continental breakfast. We will depart the Cape Cod with fond memories of our holiday, making regular comfort stops on our way. We will make a stop at the duty free before Canadian customs and then make our way back to Kingston.
