Day 9 MLT Tuesday, April 20

FUNCHAL, MADEIRA, PORTUGAL
This city is the capital of the island of Madeira. Funchal, where rows of white houses climb the hillsides, is comprised of three distinct sections. The Old Zone, or Old Town, on the east side boasts historic architecture. The west side is the “touristy” hotel area, with attractions like the Casino Gardens, Quinta das Cruzes Museum and bustling Carriera Street. Between the two you’ll find the city center, which brims with museums such as the Madeira Wine Institute.

Day 10 MLT Wednesday, April 21

At Sea

Day 11 MLT Thursday, April 22

CADIZ, SPAIN
Sites here include an 18th-century cathedral, the Fine Arts Museum and the Congress Court of Spain. Most tourists choose an excursion to the historic city of Seville, visiting the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. The tour also visits the Alcazar fortress and gardens, the Golden Tower and the Barrio de Santa Cruz.

Day 12 MLT Friday, April 23

GIBRALTAR, UK TERRITORY. ST PIERRE, FRENCH TERRITORY
Sitting at the southern tip of Spain where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, the tiny British colony of Gibraltar marked the end of the known world in ancient times. The famous Barbary apes are a notable attraction here; they are Europe’s only wild monkeys and are considered a symbol of British rule. Shore excursions highlight the village of Catalan Bay, Europa Point and its lighthouse and the enormous cavern known as St. Michael’s Cave.

Day 13 MLT Saturday, April 24

MOTRIL, SPAIN
Motril is a magnificent Spanish gem on the Mediterranean coast. The relaxing sands of Playa de Torrenueva are a great place to spend a sunny day. For some inland exploring, head to the Cueva Del Capitan for a fantastic nature hike. There’s also plenty of history waiting to be experienced in the city. Stop by the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza to see a 17th-century church surrounded by incredible panoramic views. Then head to the Pre-industrial Sugar Cane Museum to learn all about the region’s staple crop.

AT SEA

Day 15 MLT Monday, April 26

BARCELONA, SPAIN
With mountains to the west and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea to the east, Barcelona possesses panoramic beauty. Among the most-visited sites in the Catalonia region’s capital are structures designed by Antoni Gaudi, including the colorful Casa Batllo, whimsical Park Guell and Barcelona’s most iconic building, the Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family, known locally as the Sagrada Familia. Walking tours are popular here, with plenty to admire in the Gothic Quarter and on La Rambla, a bustling pedestrian street lined with stalls and trees. Foodies find themselves on tours of tapas restaurants or exploring the sprawling Mercat de la Boqueria, a covered market with roots in the 13th century. For soccer fans, an excursion to Camp Nou, the home stadium for FC Barcelona, proves an exciting pilgrimage.

Day 16 MLT Tuesday, April 27

NICE (VILLEFRANCHE), FRANCE
Villefranche is set on a wooded hillside overlooking the Cote d’Azur. Shore excursions take passengers to Cannes, Nice or Monte Carlo, or you can easily visit these Riviera gems on your own via train. Those who choose to spend the day in Villefranche will find medieval chapels scattered throughout the village and an impressive 16th-century hilltop fortress. Another worthwhile sight is the Chapelle St. Pierre with its frescoes by Jean Cocteau. Nice has long been established as a popular resort town and rightly so, with its graceful blend of Old World charm and elegant sophistication. Many tourists find the Promenade des Anglais and the colorful square in the old town to be two of the city’s finest sights. The museums here are superb, including the Musee Chagall, the Musee Matisse, the International Museum of Naïve Art and the Beaux-Arts Museum.

Day 17 MLT Wednesday, April 28

FLORENCE/PISA(LIVORNO), ITALY
Home to the Italian Naval Academy, Livorno is one of the country’s most important ports. Visit the Terrazza Mascagni, a plaza that overlooks the Ligurian Sea, then make the 15-mile trip northeast to Pisa. This province is known for its Leaning Tower, but other monuments in the same complex, including the Baptistery of San Giovanni, are worth exploring. Florence, located 60 miles east of Livorno, is home to the Uffizi, which boasts the works of artists like da Vinci, and the Accademia Gallery, where you can see Michelangelo’s David statue. While the Duomo cathedral casts a domineering presence on the Florentine skyline, it’s equally impressive up close, its colorful façade adorned with intricate artwork and lifelike statues. Excursions into the Tuscan countryside allow you to tour vineyards, sample wines and hunt for truffles.

Day 18 MLT Thursday, April 29

CIVITAVECCHIA (ROME), ITALY
On Italy’s Lazio coast, a 16th-century fortress welcomes cruisers to Civitavecchia, Rome’s main port. This stunning Mediterranean village is 50 miles northwest of the capital city. Rome’s influence on art, intellect, politics and religion helped shape the Western world, and much from its storied past still can be seen today. Can’t-miss tour destinations include Vatican City’s Sistine Chapel, featuring frescoes painted by Michelangelo; the Roman Forum ruins, home to impressive temples from the ancient metropolis; and the Colosseum, built in A.D. 80 as an amphitheater for gladiator battles and war games. As you stroll cobblestone streets with a slice of authentic pizza or a cone of creamy gelato, make sure to pose for a photo at the Spanish Steps and toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure your return to the Eternal City. Culinary tours venture to vineyards and groves for wine sips and olive oil dips.

Day 19 MLT Friday, April 30

AT SEA

Day 20 MLT Saturday, May 1

SPLIT, CROATIA
This Mediterranean city on the eastern shores of the Adriatic has a long and eventful history dating back to the awesome Diocletian’s Palace (circa 295 A.D.) in the
centre of the city. Split offers cruise guests a wealth of exciting places to visit, from the majestic cathedral and marble streets in the centre of town to the harbour area with its café-lined promenades and views of coastal mountains.

Day 21 MLT Sunday, May 2

RAVERNNA/VENICE, ITALY
Located on the Adriatic, the city is renowned for the mosaic decoration of its Byzantine churches and tombs. The mosaics of the Tomb of Galla Placida and the Basilica of St. Apollinaris are among the most famous throughout Europe because of their striking and varied colors.

Day 22 MLT Monday, May 3

VENICE, ITALY
After an included breakfast, we’ll meet our local guide and be provided with a whisper set so we can hear the exciting details of all we are about to visit and explore! Get ready — a visit to the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale) in Venice isn’t just a stop on a tour — it’s a journey through a thousand years of power, art, and intrigue! We’ll see The Great Council Hall — Imagine this: a cavernous chamber where the ruling council of Venice met. Its walls once held frescoes by some of the greatest masters, Lavish Doge’s apartments & state rooms — These rooms once hosted lavish ceremonies and witnessed the daily business of a powerful maritime republic. Today, they’re filled with art, gilded ceilings and sumptuous decoration, The Bridge of Sighs & the Prisons — Feel the chill of history as you cross the enclosed, stone Bridge of Sighs — once the route prisoners took to their cells. The prisons themselves are still powerful, atmospheric spaces and hidden corners and secret passageways — For those curious about the less obvious: winding corridors, quiet courtyards, and passageways that once served intrigue, justice — and maybe secrets… The afternoon is yours at your leisure, to enjoy Venice your way! Try a Gondola ride, explore Ponte Vecchio or delight in the flavours and wines of the region! Tonight we’ll share in laughs and memories as we enjoy a farewell dinner together! (B) (D)
