Day 1
Wednesday, June 24 - Montreal
10:00 am A warm welcome to our fellow travelling friends, old and new, as we get ready for a wonderful Rail-to-Road Adventure to the Maritimes! Once you arrive this
morning at the Maple Leaf Lounge/Kingston Shrine Club (3260 Princess Street at Collins Bay Road), come on inside to check in with your Maple Leaf Tour Director and meet your fellow travelling companions before we get underway! We’ll set out for Montreal and have an included lunch on our way before we arrive downtown Montreal at the Via Rail Station at approximately 3:30 pm and check in with our luggage for VIA Rail’s “The Ocean”. We’ll depart Montreal at 6:30 pm and begin our travel East! Shower access is dependent on the train cars that VIA Rail assigns on the day of departure; meaning it is possible that there may be no shower access on this overnight rail trip. (L) (D)
Day 2
Thursday, June 25 - Halifax/Antigonish
Today we’ll travel along the St. Lawrence River and the Gaspesie coast! Through the night as you enjoy a restful sleep, the train will travel along the coast passing Riviere-du-Loup, Rimouski, Campbellton and Miramichi as you slumber. We’ll retrace this on your way home at the end of our holiday so you’ll see these wonderful sights during the daylight hours. At 6:36 pm we’ll arrival into Halifax where our motorcoach will be waiting for us. We’ll enjoy dinner together before our coach delivers us to our wonderful overnight at the Claymore Inn and Suites Anitgonish. Once we arrive and check in, we can rest and relax for the remainder of the evening. (B) (L) (D)
Day 3
Friday, June 26 - Baddeck Cape Breton, Nova Scotia
After breakfast we continue through the province of Nova Scotia, crossing the Canso Causeway into Cape Breton arriving at our hotel, The Inverary Resort on Baddeck Bay, Nova Scotia. Located on the scenic Bras d’Or Lakes the hotel features a full-service restaurant and lounge. Tonight we are welcomed with an included dinner at our hotel. (B) (D)
Day 4
Saturday, June 27 - Baddeck
After breakfast in the dining room we will board the coach to explore the Cabot Trail. Sit back and enjoy some of the most amazing scenery in North America. We have a local guide to point out all the highlights. Our day will include coffee breaks, lunch and plenty of photo opportunities, plus some interesting crafts people. We return to Baddeck late afternoon in time to enjoy dinner this evening in Baddeck. Enjoy a four-course lobster feast including fresh seafood chowder, steamed Nova Scotia mussels, homemade rolls and biscuits, salad and delicious desserts. (Alternate selection for those not preferring lobster include steak or salmon. (B) (D)
Day 5
Sunday, June 28 - Baddeck
Breakfast is included this morning before we continue touring the island. We will enjoy a wonderful day of sightseeing around Bras d’Or Lake. Dinner will be on your own this evening as you enjoy the beautiful scenery around Baddeck Bay! (B)
Day 6
Monday, June 29 - Halifax
After a lovely breakfast, we’ll depart the hotel, heading toward out destination, Halifax. Our hotel for the next 2 nights is the Courtyard Halifax, downtown Halifax, across from the Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk, Alexander Keiths Brewery and Casino Nova Scotia. Over the next two days we will enjoy all the Halifax has to offer. This afternoon, we’ll arrive into Halifax in time for you to enjoy lunch on your own at the Historic Waterfront with it’s numerous restaurants, food stations and eating areas! After lunch, we will join a local guide for an informative and fun filled ride through the streets of Halifax to learn about the history and culture of the city. Hear of Halifax’s war years and of the exploits and heroism of the citizens who lived through the devastating Halifax Explosion. Visit the Fairview Lawn Cemetery to learn about the local connection to the Titanic Disaster. From tales of disaster and triumph to remarkable stories of everyday life, discover the people and places that have made Halifax one of the most unique and captivating cities in North America! After a lovely day, we’ll check into our hotel before enjoying an included dinner together. After dinner, the remainder of the evening is you to enjoy as you please. (B) (D)
Day 7
Tuesday, June 30 - Halifax
Enjoy breakfast this morning before we set out to discover all the beauty of Nova Scotia! Today we will visit Peggy’s Cove and Lunenburg, stroll along the boardwalk and enjoy as you please! There will be free time to wander and explore on your own this afternoon when we return to Halifax. Possibly visit Pier 21, Maritime Museum or visit the Alexander Keith’s Brewery, located downtown within walking distance of the hotel. This evening dinner is on your own in the bustling hub of downtown Halifax waterfront so you can check out some of the fine area restaurants and pubs within walking distance, or test Lady Luck at the Casino Nova Scotia. Day 8
Wednesday, July 1 - VIA Rail Return Journey
Enjoy a leisurely morning after our included breakfast taking time to walk along the Halifax Waterfront and pick up any last minute souvenirs before we transfer to the VIA Rail station to board our 11:30 am train back to Montreal. We’ll retrace our route, this time in the daylight hours. (B) (L) (D)
Day 9
Thursday, July 2 - Montreal
Rise and shine as we pull into the Montreal VIA Station and transfer to our awaiting coach that will return us home after our wonderful Rail-to-Road Maritime Adventure! We’ll make a lunch stop on our way home. We expect an early afternoon return with wonderful memories of our Maritime holiday with thoughts of “Where are we going next?” and smiles galore at the excitement of our next adventure! (B)
